The NPO Japan Karate Shotokai National Championship and National Wheel Chair Championship was held on Saturday August 3^rd and Sunday August 4^th, 2002.

Friday, August 2^nd

The thick cloud which covered the sun brought heavy raindrops with thunder, and the place became a full storm in the afternoon the day before the Championship.

During the storm, instructors and parents from each district gathered to Kokuritu Yoyogi Second Gymnasium in order to get the numbers and the programs. The instructors, who were running and still wet even though trying to protect their belongings, showed strong feelings for their students just like parents do for their children.

Saturday, August 3^rd

The first day of the Championship was welcomed by students, instructors, and parents as one. Whether they are able to show the results of their hard efforts throughout last year depends on each one of them.

Compared to past years, the Championship moved forward rather quickly through groups of elementary, junior, and high school competitors, and kata and kumite competitors.

The experience during the National Championship will not let the students forget the meaning of their important step they took competing at the Yoyogi Gymnasium. The students will grow with the happiness and hardship that they experienced.

Sunday, August 4^th

After all the tournament classes of competitors, including Junior, General groups, Individuals, and Wheelchair competition, finished we had the closing ceremony. All the students are looking towards the summer of 2003.
